It’s done it’s done it’s done, after 18 f’ing months it’s DONE!! And it looks pretty damn good too, if I say so myself. Hence the series of photos flexing my knitting muscles, waving my arms in FO joy and triumphal middle distance stares. “What?? Is that some grade a, bad ass, super hard cabling? NO FREAKIN’ PROBLEM!!! For I am Steph, Queen of the Cable!”
I could have probably done without so many increases in the upper back, it might have lessened the wrinkling. The neckline turned out super well too, I can wear it without anything underneath, which is useful because it’s really warm! I’m feeling a gilet will need to be on the shopping list, it’s pretty thick and I’m not convinced it’s going to get any thinner on washing, rather the opposite.
Does 4.25mm even exist?! I’m going with 4.5mms.
I really REALLY FUCKING hate ptbl. Absolute MURDER on the wrist, and I knit continental, for goodness’ sake.
This also v useful for knitting in the round.
Rounded neck - see here
CO 86 front and back - take 2 stitches off each side
172 in total (done in the round)
Full length sleeves. Abandoned seamless top down - I WILL conquer it one day! Meant I had to do maths. Ugh, maths. Ummm, I mean, WOOOOOO, MATHS!!!
Decreases and increases done at the side of the centre panels, not at the sides, works better in moss stitch.
I got me some knitting fever on this baby. Sod’s law, when you do have enough yarn, you get bored, when you don’t, you can’t stop knitting!
Also made sure the moss stitch at the beginning of the round came to an odd number, makes sure you don’t get two knit / purl stitches together.
Putting this baby into sleep mode. Other most interes… errrrr…. necessary things to finish first. Plus it’s summer, who needs aran weight pure wool in summer?!
13/11/13 This is being dragged out of hibernation. I want to do those sleeves. And I want to do them top down, dangnammit. I have done one sleeve cap and it’s gone ok (touch wood). I don’t think it’s going to come out too baggy. Plus, trying the jumper on again made me realise how much I really really like it. Tip, for a practically invisible pick up row, do it with tiiiiiny tiny needles. I did mine with a 2mm circular.
Sleeves caps went fine, very happy with how they’ve turned out. Knitting them top down now, not too baggy.
9/5/14 man I haaaaaaaaaate sleeves!!! So fricking boring, just going round and round and round and round. Thank god I’m doing two at time.
5/6/14 done! Sleeves done (tried them on expecting a good few extra inches to do and they were at my wrists! Unexpected surprise. Knit a good inch for the neckline ribbing. Tried ktbl, p but it wasn’t strong enough so had to go for ktbl, ptbl, yuckyuckyuck. Just got to weave all the bloody ends to weave in now…
I’ve rated this as a high difficulty as that cable within a cable was bloody fiddly. I would only recommend this to a knitter who is very comfortable cabling (i.e. without a needle)
11/6/14 the very very very very long process of weaving in about a gazillion ends has started. I may have this ready to wear by about October. October 2015.
I’m not entirely sure how I manage to have over 4 balls left of this wool when all I can find is one ball, scraps and half a very sorry sleeve. Hmmmmm.
