Notes

Already making changes to the neckline as I was getting the bubbling effect that other people had with the GSRs. I followed the instructions for row 1 but all of my short row turns from then on were worked 2 sts after each turn, i.e. I knit the GSR double stitch, knit 2 and then turned. I repeated until I ran out of stitches on the outside, so 4 turns on each side.

I worked the rest of the back panel as instructed.

For the front I worked each shoulder separately by picking up 12 stitches and working back and forth using GSRs and increases to shape them. I then cast on sts for the neckline - the same number as indicated in the pattern - and joined to work the front panel.

I worked the rest of the body as instructed, including the hem, but I did an i-cord bind-off instead of the garter section.

For the rolled finishings I worked the neckline first and very quickly realised that my neckline was more square than round, so I wasn’t going to get a nice rolled edge like I wanted. I ended up working 3 rounds of ribbing on a 2.5mm needle, followed by 2 rounds of stockinette before binding off with a regular bind-off.

For the armholes I was able to get a more rolled effect but I had to go down to 2.5mm needle and reduce the pick up rate to 7 in 12 as the armhole was too deep otherwise (after blocking it’s possibly still too deep so I may redo it at 1 in 2). I worked 5 rounds of stockinette before bidning off.

Overall not over the moon with the project, but that’s almost entirely due to my own experimentation! Lessons were definitely learned and I’d love to try again knowing what I know now. I also think the yarn is too drapey for a rolled edge. Even going down a mm in needle size didn’t seem to help that. It is a lovely yarn and I’d work with it again, I just don’t think it’s a good match for the project.

The pattern is well-written and easy to understand, so no criticism there! Even the bubbling effect in the shoulders can be mitigated with the right yarn, from what I can tell from other ravelry projects.
