Cast on 66 stitches. Had to change needle size when I reached the Fair Isle section and change back for the heel. Working the instep in Fair isle rather than the toe so that my work will show.

I like Fair Isle. It isn’t complicated or difficult and the results are wonderful. Progress is slow because I don’t tend to take the project with me, due to using two balls of yarn and the need to carry the chart.

Big teachable moment: Late one night I discovered a mistake that distorted the diamond pattern. I tried repeatedly to correct the mistake by dropping down the column of stitches…Only made it worse. Had to frog all of the Fair Isle.

After several days of knitting to recover the frogged inches, I realized what I thought was a distortion is just the place where one row ends and the next row begins.

Lesson learned…When you find a mistake in your knitting an HOUR AFTER YOUR BEDTIME, just set it aside and go to sleep. Usually the mistake disappears in the night.
