Regarding puppies, accurate weights and dyelots…
First of all…
#@$#%& PUPPIES!!!!
June 14-This has been a lovely relaxing project, except for today. The puppies found my project bag, pulled the knitted part free of the ball, destroyed the needles, turned the ball into one big tangle that took me over 6 hours to resolve, but thankfully they didn’t damage the knitting.
I spliced the yarn, replaced the needles and continued.
21 June-Finally memorized the pattern at the apex.
Created one centered point at the apex by neither increasing nor decreasing for a repeat.
Weighed the yarn to decide when to turn around, so excited now to complete the project. It really goes fast when you don’t have to keep referring to the pattern.
22 June-Happily knitting swiftly…On the downhill now!
June 23-AAAAURRRRGGGG…I ran out of yarn with 6 inches to go
Considered contacting sock knitters who had worked in this yarn to beg for scraps…Considered ripping back to the apex…ended up ordering another skein…I guess there’s going to be a hat…
26 June- Woke with an urge to visit The Mannings…never been there before, but heard it was amazing.
2pm…the rumors were correct…amazing. I hadn’t been in the store more than 60 seconds before I found myself standing before three skeins of my yarn…in two dye lots that couldn’t be more different.
What if the yarn I ordered on line arrived in the pale grey dye lot instead of my deeply shaded version? I bought the last skein of the deep dark.
When I arrived home, a squishy bag of yarn was waiting in the mailbox…opened it to find…
The grey…
OMG…so happy I bought the yarn at The Mannings…So happy I heard the Call and was able to make the five hour round trip…Back to happy knitting
27 June The scarf is complete…
Fourteen repeats on each side, plus one centered repeat for the point. Final blocked meaurements are 68” x 26 “.
I loved knitting it, in spite of a couple of lessons learned…
-
When you begin, weigh your yarn, don’t rely on the ball band. This yarn actually weighs 105 grams per skein, even though the band and Ravelry say it weighs 100 grams. In the end, I was short three grams. (My scarf weighs 108, the remaining ball weighs 103.)
-
Recognize that dye lots may vary so much that alternating balls is not an option. Had I not found the right dye lot at The Mannings on my spur of the moment road trip, I would have had to rip back half of the scarf.

Puppies…Puppies…Puppies…It’s a miracle that I have been able to learn to knit lace since I brought the Girlies home. Need kevlar project pouches…
