Mods: Worked Sleeve in the round, then worked the front and back from a single “seam” of stitches cast on over the two ends of a very long cable.
Aug 6-Love at first sight…I couldn’t wait to begin knitting my first garment. Ordering a cool yarn on line proved very frustrating…
Aug 12-Visited Fibre Space in Alexandria for the first time… blown away by the fabulous selection of indie dyed yarn
Aug 12-Elected to at least begin by knitting the first sleeve in the round. I think I’m getting gauge..hope…
The fabric feels great and I like trying on my sleeve as I go.
Placed a stitch marker at the beginning of the round, knitting magic loop, alternating between my two balls to mitigate pooling
Aug 18-Returned to Fibre Space and picked up a third skein of my yarn, just to be on the safe side. This one is radically different from the two previous skeins, so now I’m cycling between the three balls to randomize the colors (…And yes, working from three balls at once is a real PITA.)
Aug 19-Finished the right sleeve this morning. Starting at the underarm, I cast on side stitches over the two ends of a long circular cable. Knit up one side, over the sleeve(shoulder) and back down the other side…
Voila! No side seams!
Aug 24-Finished the left sleeve and learned to do “Judy’s Magic Cast on” from this video:

(The result looks much better than the cast on I tried last week.) I cast on over the two ends of a very long circular needle outfitted with tips three sizes bigger than the needles I have been using on this cardigan, then I switched back to #8’s to knit.
Magic loop…Magic cast on…lots of magic…anyone know a magic kitchener stitch?
Aug 29-Grafted the two sides together, this morning. It took 35 minutes of good light, complete silence and uninterrupted attention…I think I was holding my breath.
Aug 30- Quiet morning so I sat down with some visual instructions from the Knit Picks website…

…And worked through the i cord bind off…I found it easy and effective, and it makes a beautiful finish to the sweater.

Aug 31-Blocked overnight, ready to wear…I couldn’t be more pleased with the finished cardigan, the process, my mods, the brilliant pattern and the lusciously soft yarn with it’s rich shaded colors. I can’t wait for enough chill in the air to wear this cozy cardi. (It was 99 degrees F today when I went to the yarn store for my next project…)
