Notes

I used 8ply acrylic from stash and a 3.5mm hook for both versions and I worked tightly so the poppies don’t flop when attached to stems later on.

Lynn’s patterns are great. Just watch out that they’re written in English notation so treble means dc (US) and double crochet means sc (US).

Version #1 is the easier - just 3 rounds of dc (US) - 1 round of black and 2 rounds of red. The pattern is at https://5000poppies.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/rsl-poppi...

Version #2 is also a beginner pattern but a bit more fiddly. The pattern is at the link provided on Ravelry pattern page.

Mods:
Versions #1 & #2

  • I altered the final round of both versions to make the petals shallower / less wavy and more poppy looking (to me) by alternately working 2 stitches then 1 stitch (instead of 2 in each stitch as written).
  • I finished last round of each element with an invisible join (here’s a really clear photo tutorial https://www.1dogwoof.com/how-to-crochet-invisible-joins/).

Version #2 only
- I sewed the centre to the body with red yarn from back of body, attaching only to green part so that black edge could stand proud.

Please message me if anything’s unclear.
