Crochet using the edited map of the world chart so that one square = 1dc (1 sc US) using 5.0mm hook
using aran yardage from original pattern suggests 20 balls of 100g DK yarn
No ‘points’ - aim to make flat as wall hanging.
Yarn ordered 11-Feb-2016 from Wool Warehouse for £33.80 and free post. Cannot start till it arrives
I am using the edited map as linked by favourites to twigletqueen
I am inspired to crochet this instead of knitting it having seen the lovely project by klinej
note to self: carry out an extra stitch either side of the chart in matching colour to act as selvedge stitch

I carried out some practice runs to crochet and swap colours whilst carrying a colour to and fro across flat work.

Yay! My wool arrived and I got started immediately.
Have completed 10 rows edging and am 10 rows into the ocean border - having done away with the points at the ends of the maps.
As there shall be a large expanse of blue, I might embroider a kraken on once I’ve completed the project - possibly in the South Pacific in homage to Cthulhu.

I’m exploring the coastline of New Zealand - well am crocheting the bottom of it. Even with a magnifying glass on the go it is quite hard using the chart as it’s very small on A4 paper. Starting to look like a map though :-)

Had to frog back and re-create New Zealand, but have no progressed beyond NZ and Tasmania and am now working on Southern Australia. 50 rows in to this section so am still only a 20th of the way through.

Project was put on hold as I’ve been too stressed to concentrate on the grid. I picked it up again last night and crocheted another 8 rows. Australia is now completed.

Like Cthulhu, this project has been in deep slumber as I was struggling with the grid printed on A4. Luckily I’ve managed to print it out on A3 at work and suddenly this looks like it shall be back on the current WIP list.

With a heavy heart I am frogging this, but I am going to knit it instead.
It has been hibernating for five years now and I really want to make this blanket.
