Knit with many modifications: jointed legs, larger shoes, shorter arms and tweaks to her little face to get an expression I liked. I originally found the lace edging pattern on a blog but it is no longer available so I’ve added it below.

The lace edge is knit sideways. Once 18 points are knit, pick up stitches along the straight edge to begin knitting the dress.

Hem Edging:

Row 1: Co 4 stitches
Row 2: Knit all stitches
Row 3: K2, yo, K2
Row 4: Sl st 1, knit all stitches
Row 5: K3, yo, K2
Row 6: K2, yo, K2 tog, yo, K2
Row 7: sl st 1, knit all stitches
Row 8: K3, yo, K2 tog, yo, K2
Row 9: Bind off 4 stitches, K3
Repeat rows 2-9 for each point desired

Note: Sl st: slip stitch as if to knit

Each finished point will have 4 stitches for pick up. 18 points will create 72 stitches. Based on this, add or delete points to adjust the width or fullness of the dress. After picking up stitches, I worked two rows of garter stitch before beginning stockinette ( with a simple textured pattern) for the dress.
