This dress was challenging but so much fun to design and knit. That fun would even include ripping out the first attempt. It’s all a lesson!
90 stitches were cast on and reduced to 36 stitches at the waist(Row 27 of the pattern) to create a more full skirt.
The leaves along the waist are an abbreviated version of the Strawberry Hat pattern linked above. A modified seed stitch was knit on the body of the dress to give it a dimpled strawberry effect.
The scalloped trim was crocheted into the back of the garter stitch row along the dress hem. See the photo to the left. It is a repeat of “slip stitch into one stitch, skip 2 stitches, single crochet 5 times into one stitch, skip 2 stitches”. Crocheting into the garter stitch did cause the top row of green hem stitching to dimple along the front. Perhaps doing three rows of garter stitch at the hem and crocheting into the back of the second row would make this less noticeable.
The flower was crocheted with white embroidery floss and a 2.25mm hook. Make a magic circle then pull the working yarn through the circle and “chain 2, make one double crochet, chain 2 and slip stitch into the circle” five times for five petals. Pull tight and secure ends when finished. The yellow center is a double knot of double stranded fingering yarn pulled through and secured. The tiny leaves next to the flower were a bit of a guessing game…..chain 5 and sc, dc, dc, sc along both sides until each one looked right.
The bunny is knit with Filatura di Crosa Zara yarn in Latte 1773 on 2.75 needles.
