Notes

I wanted a dress with a bee theme…but something different than all stripes. The honeycomb or hexagon stitch was perfect. I started with a cast on of 96 stitches. After the long tail cast on in black I knit 2 rows in black, 2 in yellow and 4 more in black to create a wide garter stitch hem. Then I joined in the round for the honeycomb stitch:
Honeycomb stitch( in the round):
Row 1: Knit (black yarn) join in the round at the end of this row)
Row 2: Purl (black yarn)
Rows 3-6: (switch to yellow yarn) Knit 2, (slip 2, knit 4) repeat to last 4 stitches, then slip 2, knit 2
Rows 7 & 8: repeat rows 1 & 2( black yarn)
Rows 9-12: (yellow yarn) Slip 1, (knit 4, slip 2) repeat to last 5 stitches then knit4, slip 1
All slipped stitches are slipped as if to purl with the yarn in back. Repeat rows 1-12 for length desired.

I followed my usual modifications for the hem and decreasing at the waist as described here:

However, for this dress, three rows before the waist ( or before row 28 of the seasonal dresses pattern) I began decreasing the honeycomb stitch with a knit row in black yarn, knitting together the two yellow center stitches in each hexagon and the two black slipped stitches. This left 64 stitches. I decreased to 36 stitches in the next row by purling 4, purling 2 tog (28 times), and purling 4. I followed with a knit row so I could begin following Row 28 of the seasonal dresses pattern.

The wings were a simple crochet heart pattern found here:
Easy Crochet Heart Pattern

The crocheted bee pattern is listed above. The bunny was knit on 2.75 mm needles with Filatura di Crosa Zara yarn in Latte 1773.
