Notes

This little dress was designed in celebration of my daughter’s engagement. It follows my usual modifications found here but has a few extra touches: two of the sheep are knit a bit differently in the row so they can look at one another; there is a one stitch decrease at the end of row 11 of the chart; and the second decrease row before the bodice is designed for less puckering over the two Love Ewe sheep. Details below.

The dress was started with a long tail cast on of 92 stitches on straight needles and five rows of garter stitch for the hem after which I joined in the round on 12 inch circulars.

On row 10, the sheep feet, you will knit 5 pairs of feet together as pictured in chart 2. The next two sheep will be facing one another so you will follow chart 3 each time you come to them in the round. Their feet and heads are placed differently. The remaining sheep in the row, 6 of them, follow the same chart as the first 5.

SPECIAL NOTE: At the end of row 11 in the colorwork chart, (the end of the first row of white for the sheep bodies), you will decrease with an SSK (slip, slip, knit) on the last two blue stitches. See the 5th photo. This gives you a count of 91 stitches which is needed for even spacing between the sheep.

The hearts between the sheep are all knit as shown in chart 2. You will go back and duplicate stitch around the little heart between the “Love Ewes” to make it more prominent as shown in Chart 4. The duplicate stitches are shaded in mauve on the chart though you will use the same pink yarn as for the small hearts.

The last special change was to knit the second decrease row with less puckering over the two Love Ewes. Otherwise, they would be distorted in the dress crease.

The decreases are as follows:
Row 26: (Purl 2 tog) 45 times, purl 1 (46 stitches)

Row 27: K5, (K2tog, K1) 5 times, K4, (K2 tog, K1) 5 times, K8 (36 stitches)

I used colors from two sets of Sweet Georgia Yarn Party of Five packs: Snap Dragon and Swell. Such beautiful yarn and amazing colors that play well together.

The bunny was knit with Sublime extra fine merino dk in caramel on 2.75 needles.
