PATTERN:
Was looking for a relatively quick project to use up my DROPS Fabel leftovers and came across the Pure Joy shawl on their website. I love the randomness of the colours in the original, but unfortunately don’t have enough printed yarn to create the same effect (according to the pattern, 100 g each of two colourways is needed) - my leftovers are mostly uni colour. Will need less than a skein from each colour.
It’s a nice knit, the rows don’t get too long (60 stitches at the most), and there is some variation with the picot edge (so simple yet such a nice effect!) and the offset holes, as well as the changing colours. Very easy to memorise, only had to refer back to the pattern to check the numbers and remind myself how to proceed after the last increase.

ADJUSTMENTS:
So instead of 2 continuous yarns, I arranged my yarns in a rainbow-ish order and calculated how many segments I would have and how many rows in each combi. It turned out to be 6 segments going from white/blue to yellow/orange. It looks a bit like a temperature scale, which I really like.
It seems there are going to be 638 rows all in all, and since the pattern is a repetition of 4 rows (equalling one picot “row”), I thought one segment should have a multiple of 4 rows, if possible. Decided on going 100-100-100-138-100-100. That makes the only “double print” segment I have my largest.
After the middle, the pattern calls for an exception in the a-hole-every-sixth-row (one new hole after 4 rows, right when decreases begin), but since I couldn’t figure out whether it was supposed to mark the middle or just a slight mistake in the written pattern, I decided to ignore it and continue in my 6-row-repetition.

CONCERNS:
I’m slightly concerned about changing the hole pattern in the middle and hope it won’t look off as a result.
I am also not sure whether I will have enough green (“guacamole”), since it’s my smallest stash with the second-largest application (after “blue lagoon”).

I will change the proportions of the segments to 100-100-100-100-?-? (the last-but-one is green/yellow, and I will knit it until green runs out and then finish off with yellow/orange). Otherwise there would just be too much blue.

Finished. I ended up doing 124 rows (31 picots) of yellow/green and the rest in orange/yellow, even though there was some green yarn left. I wanted some orange/yellow for intense warmth - a real opposition to the wintery start on the other end. And I didn’t want the tips on both sides to be of exact same length, although that would probably not have made any difference.
Can’t wait to show it off :)
