Made to Match my Seattle Skies Capelet.
Gauge, 18 sts per 4 inches in stockinette
Braided cable 3x3 = 24 sts per 4 inches. Braided cable does not stretch, use accurate measurement around hand for CO at this gauge, and round up if needed.
Hand measurement 7.5” across knuckles = 45 stitches, round up to 48 for both 2x2 and 3x3 repeats.

Begin cable pattern. If you are using 2@aT magic loop, your R cross cable will need to wrap around the pinky side of the mitten (as well as above the thumb gusset) and will need the help of a DPN or cabling needle to hold the stitches. Or, you can choose to only work the cable pattern on each surface of the mitten without wrapping.
In any case, begin the thumb gusset on the same round as your first R cable cross, and continue to increase on every-other row until you have 12 total thumb stitches.
Hold thumb stitches, finish hand in pattern, crossing cable above thumb when needed. Work mitten top decreases along with cables as long as you can, dropping the edge cables as needed. my last 6 rows were all stockinette. Pick up held thumb stitches, pick up 6 stitches total from mitten edge. Decrease every other row until 12 remain. Finish thumb, pull stitches together to end thumb tip.

I’m glad I rounded up slightly, as I can just feel a light squeeze around my hand. They are perfect, I’m so proud of them! The cable around the end with ML was a super pain - next time I might not wrap the sable around, but it sure does look nice that way.
