I followed the design as instructed for the main body but made a few changes for the beak, wings and tail.

Beak: After a bit of trial and error I stopped after Row 1 and joined both pieces to make the beak quite a bit smaller than in the design.

Wings: I followed the pattern for the wings but they didn’t seem big or flappy enough for my bird so I came up with a different design: (UK terms)
Ch2, 3xdc in second chain from hook. Turn. (2dc in first dc, 1dc in each stitch to end of row. Turn.)
Repeat ( ) until your wings are 11 stitches wide.
Make a second.

Tail: I used the wing piece I had made following the original pattern as the tail and sewed it on directly below the wings.
