I’ve knitted this pattern a number of times for baby shower gifts. I give the book “Burt Dow Deep-Water Man” by Robert McCloskey with the whale. It was a favorite book of mine as a child.

I use felt for the eyes instead of safety eyes for babies because I have better peace of mind.

I also add a tacket to the end of the tail to help the fins stick out to the side more than just straight back.
