I need a new throw to go with my new furniture, so I am playing with this design. Solids were not looking right, so I opted for garter stitch stripes.
8/24- Cast on and knit a few rows with the design as I initially wrote it (cables were only lightly modified from standard writing), but it created too long of floats and pulled up too much. So I ripped it out, added more stitches between the slipped stitches into the charts and increased the number cast on.
8/26- Restarting. I got about 40 rows in and the proportions felt wrong. I measured and found out that the central panel with less than 1/3 of the blanket. Plus, the overall width was only 41”, instead of the 44” I wanted.

About 6-8” into the latest attempt. Not sure how I feel about it at this point, so I’ll just keep working until I can decide. Trying to knit a couple rows a day.

Just finished up the first ball of white, at approximately 9 inches. Since the part using white should be approx. 52”, I should have enough. I also decided on a design for the center- well sort of, I like it but it might be too elaborate, So I’ll knit it and see.

Managed to get to ~13” before there was an unfortunate incident with a plate of pizza that resulted in red spots on my project and my chair. The suds of dish soap and water work great on tomato sauce, but now I have to wait for it to dry

Working on the central section now (the part with the diamond), so ~20” complete. Spacing seems a bit off, but since I’m only at the bottom it is really hard to tell. I’ll just have to knit it and see.

At roughly the halfway point (minus the border), measuring roughly 28” unstretched. Going slow since I’ve been sick.

Finally finished the diamond and am working on the final section. I didn’t take into account the extra stitches for the central section, so I’m on my last skein of white. I’ll have to buy a couple more. Oh well, if I have extra, I’ll make some snowmen :)

Finished 2 1/2 of the 4 1/2 diamonds for the top section. Trying to knit a few rows a day. I did figure out that for the 5 stitch cables, I can fix them without ripping by dropping the one set of slipped stitches down to the mess up, moving them to the proper spot, then hooking back up.

Finished the center section. My dimensions were off- I forgot to take the weight of the blanket making it grow into account. Center section measures about 48 x 62. I opted to kill the acrylic before knitting the border so I could see what the dimensions were and figure out if I need to adjust the pick up rate.
I was initially going to do a reversible cable for the border since it feels like it needs a thick fabric to balance it, but I did a test swatch and it was too much work to be worth it. So instead I’m going to try a garter stitch border with an i-cord edge.

Nearly done with first side of edging. Took a couple tries to decide on the stitch count for the border, but I’m pleased with it so far. It is moving really quickly and the rows are short enough that it’s a bit addicting because it makes it seem like you are knitting really fast.

Finished first side, turned corner and am now working on the bottom. I should have done a provisional cast on but originally thought I would sew the border down. My current issue with the bottom is that it is rippling a tiny bit, but I’m also planning on stretching it sideways a little more, so I am not sure if that is enough. I’ll probably finish the side, see how it looks and then either rip back or leave it.

The rippling was making me nervous, so I ripped back to the corner, knit it separately, then used an H hook to slip stitch the pieces together. It is a reasonably similar look, and it lets me attach at the correct ratio

Working on the final side. have had to put it aside to work on my mom’s Xmas gift.

Finished all of the knitting last night. I just need to finish weaving in the ends and blocking it.
