Error others have noted & I adjusted for:
Under “Join Sleeves & Body”, begin using CC3 (green) on last dec rnd of neck so that when you start ribbing next rnd, it will look ok. Pattern says to start CC3 when you start ribbing but I think this is incorrect and I started using green the rnd before.
Note: P/u sts for the antlers in a VERTICAL row, NOT horizontal.
Held green yarn dominant for sweater and only caught floats longer than 5 sts.
Aside from CO, I believe I used DPNs for all. Tried to use shorties and regular circ for moose body and sweater body, but no luck.
Yarn used:
57.8g brown (Cold Drip) used, 56.2 for moose+1.3g for sweater
10.5g dark brown (Horror Hostess) used for moose hooves
26.9g cream (Paper) used, 5.9 for antlers+21g for pine sweater
15g green (Tannenbaum) used for pine sweater
Moose size (approx):
7” tall w/o antlers
8” tall with antlers
5” wide (not including) arms)
12” belly circumference
Sweater size:
Prewash: 5.25” W x 4.25” H (incl rib), 3” sleeve length (incl rib)
Post-wash: 5.5” W x 4” H x 4” sleeve length
Tried size 7 DPNs at first for the moose in case my yarn was slightly thicker than what the pattern called for. Nope. Decided to go w/size 6 for the moose per the pattern and 7s for the sweater per pattern.
Judy’s Magic CO. Also used VPK video for the same CO except did not use a slipknot at beginning.
Moose notes:
Did not overstuff moose per pattern (about 12” chest/bely circumference). P/u sts for the antlers in a VERTICAL row, NOT horizontal. Wrapped dark brown color yarn around eye placement st 3x and wove in ends inside instead of safety eyes since this is for a newborn. Did the eyelids in brown. Not sure if noticeable. Used yarn to close/sew up very minor “holes”“ near base of moose nose. Used brown yarn to “cinch” around hoof ends and then made some sts btwn sides of arms/legs to hopefully keep stuffing in hooves (and not traveling down arms/legs) after washing. I did not find the antlers or anything else especially fiddly, but my fiddly tolerance is high.
Pine Sweater notes:
1x1 tubular CO in the rnd (Suzanne Bryan) for sweater & both sleeve cuffs. Had to refresh my memory regarding stranded knitting and had to frog 1st couple beginning attempts because not knitting “loose” enough. Held green yarn dominant for sweater and only caught floats longer than 5 sts. Began using CC3 (green) on last dec rnd of neck. Several gaps to close up around underarms. JSSBO for neck collar BO.
Completed moose 09.02.2023.
Completed pine sweater 09.05.2023.
Bottom two photos are pre-wash.
Washing:
Soaked pine sweater in Tide Ultra Free and cold water. Dry flat.
Washed Moose in lingerie bag on wool cycle, cold water, low rinse (front loader) with a few microfiber cloths using Tide Ultra Free. Tumble dried low and then air dried.
To be gifted w/Chevron baby blanket. More moose sweaters to follow but wanted to get this completed and mailed well before baby’s early Nov due date.
