ch 51 (approx 12”)
r1: hdc 45, sc 5, turn (50 sts)
r2: Do not ch, turn. Sc in next 5 sts, bl hdc in next 44 sts. Hdc in both loops of final st. Turn
r3: Hdc in both loops of 1st st. Bl hdc in next 44 sts., sc in next 5 sts.

Repeat rows 2 & 3 until you have a total of 59 rows, 18”. Do not cut yarn.

Turn work sideways, fold hat together with working loop in the back on the right side. Seam together using sl sts in the back loops of both sides. Before cutting yarn, measure out about 45” of yarn from the last st (this yarn will be used to close the top. Cut yarn, leaving approx 45 -50” for sewing.

Using darning needle, weave in and out around the top of the hat, then pull tight to cinch hole closed. Weave around a few more times, then fasten off, trim end to approx 6”, and weave in end.
