Notes

I’ve made a few “regular,” screen-accurate and otherwise stick-to-the-pattern S18 (Season 18) Doctor Who scarves for others. They’re very pretty, and I love the pattern. However, this time, I’m making one for myself - but with a twist! I wanted to get a little creative with the S18 for a change - and make it a bit smaller so it doesn’t completely dwarf me. upside_down_face

It’s about half-width (25 sts) and I believe I stopped after Block 37 (out of 52 on the TV scarf), so essentially, it’s half-width and 2/3 length. And I got two of the three fun SRSs (single-row sequences) in. I also decided to go with a diagonal edge, but only on the color interchanges between blocks, leaving the regular color blocks as is. All except for all the “longest” blocks, that is - those of between 38 and 42 rows - which I bisected in the middle with a 3-stitch offset. Not sure I like that last aspect in practice as much as I did in theory, but, it’s done now!

So, yes, it is wibbly-wobbly. upside_down_face But, is it timey-wimey? Well, I’m mixing Classic Who and NuWho, so yes, I suppose it is. But, does it go ding when there’s stuff? Well, no, no, Mulder, it doesn’t. grin Oops, mixing fandoms there; sorry! But, tell me you didn’t hear that last line in Scully’s voice! ;-)

OK, back to reality. I decided against fringe/tassels, as I think it would actually detract from the overall shaping. Plus, it’s plenty long enough for petite moi as is. And I decided against the crocheted border, as it would cover up my oh-so-carefully-crafted bias edges. But, if I had done a border, it might have been in the claret/cranberry colorway. Just to be different.

The bottom photo shows my yarn choices with strands of the original, long-discontinued Sirdar chenille, which the original Doctor Who S18 scarf was made from, laid across the top. Not 100% perfect - and not chenille, of course - but these are the best acrylic color matches I have been able to find. And they’re mostly aran weight to boot, as the original scarf was. (The Cranberry color is actually the furthest off from the original, but it’s still not bad.)

It’s been done for a year now - and I love it! I just wish the colors would photograph more accurately; they’re much prettier than they look here, but the combo doesn’t photograph well, especially since my actual camera died and I have only my tablet camera. I’ve been told that tablets offen cause an issue with accurate color photography. One of these days, a new camera … but, Madame has to knit a few more scarves first!
