Notes

This scarf is inspired by the Season 18 Doctor Who Scarf used for the Tom Baker waxwork at Madame Tussauds in London, circa 1979. I made one such Exhibition replica scarf already last year, in my projects under Season 18 Waxworks Doctor Who Scarf.

This scarf follows the same pattern as the afrementioned Exhibition S18 scarf, which is even longer than the S18 used on the television show (believe it or not!) due to slightly differing row counts and a few extra color blocks at the cast-off end. The original TV scarf had 52 color blocks (plus interchanges), and the original waxworks scarf had 56 plus interchanges. It also has a purple (actually dark brown in this case) slip-stitch crochet border on the wrong side, rather than the terra-cotta-colored one on the right side of the scarf that the TV scarf has. This variant has one more difference: it’s made in only two colors rather than three. This was done intentionally, to match the photo taken for the Madame Tussauds catalog, in which lighting made it appear that there were only two colors in the scarf, and the purple blocks appeared to be a dark, coffee brown. Due to the combining of the terra cotta and wine-colored blocks, this scarf has only 39 color blocks to the original waxworks scarf’s 56 - but the color blocks are longer, to match the original row counts when totaled up.

This is a commission for my friend Gary, who picked out the yarns and started knitting it but couldn’t complete it. I picked it up about 28% of the way through. As of 4/15/19, I’m about 83% of the way through. I just realized I have never taken any pics of this scarf yet. I need to get some up soon!

The skein totals given here are what (I believe) Gary started with. I may need to buy 1 more skein of Brick.

Finished knitting late August 2019; added the crocheted border, and am now applying tassels. The scarf is 22’ 7” (271”) long before tassels. Almost done - finally!
