Notes

IT’S DONE! And I’m thrilled with it. I’d been wanting to make an armwarmer/shrug for a long time, but couldn’t settle on a color or a stitch pattern. Then, I started knitting Doctor Who scarves. One day, I draped a scarf-in-progress across my shoulders like a shawl for a photo shoot, and when I saw the resulting photo, the proverbial light bulb went off over my head. The Doctor Who Season 12 Shrug Special was born!

It’s “inspired by” the Season 12 scarf pattern, as it clearly is less than half the length, but utilizes the classic Hero 3-stitch color joins (as can be seen in the fourth photo, if you look carefully at the seams underneath my arms). It took a few months to design. At first, I was just going to knit a scarf and cut it off at a certain point, seam it together, and that would be that. But then I realized that looked rather shoddy, and if I was going to do it, I was going to have to do it properly. I decided to increase and decrease to make the shrug fitted. Spreadsheets ensued. And the ribbing on the wrists pretty much happened spontaneously, unplanned, when I finally cast on and started knitting.

As with any new design, there were a few moments of uncertainty, some re-designing, and a bit of frogging, but in the end, I LOVE my new shrug! I’m trying a new “green,” different from my regular DW scarf color palette here, too. I just love it, and wear it nearly every day when I get the chance!

I have been asked to create a pattern for this, which I’d like to do properly, in different sizes - not just to fit me - so it might take me a while. But if you’re interested in the pattern, leave a comment or shoot me a PM and I’ll be happy to earburn you when it finally comes out. I may even contact you for your measurements to make sure I can properly get everyone’s sizes in.

Oh, and as shown in the last 2 modeled photos, this shrug can also be worn as a (somewhat abbreviated) scarf, or as an “infinity” scarf, with one end tucked into the other. It’s 3, 3, 3 garments in 1! :D

THE MIDDLE:
Having hibernated for a few months, this project is now live again! I’ve re-designed it and selected the best colors. Now I just have to finish knitting it … and then you’ll see it in all its glory. :)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THE BEGINNING:
Having recently made my first two Doctor Who/Tom Baker scarves, I am officially hooked and am now on a Doctor Who scarf kick. Can you tell? ;)
So now, as I begin a third commissioned Season 12 DW Scarf, I am also making a Doctor Who Scarf-inspired side project for myself. But, it’s NOT a scarf. What exactly is it going to be? Wellllll …. it’s a surprise, you’re just going to have to wait and see! :)
