Trying to make this as a quickie project, a topper for our Christmas tree. How quickly can I get it done? :D
When I announced my intention to make one of these as a tree topper to my friends, they asked, “How will you ever sleep again as long as there’s a Weeping Angel in the house? To which I replied, “Sleep? Who sleeps?” LOL!
I wanted to make the angel grey, like the orriginal stone ones in the show, but my mom is insisting on white, since it is for the Christmas tree. I finally relented … besides, the Caron SS Party sparkle is so pretty! If it’s quick and successful, I can always make more of them!
Also, I’m trying to upsize her just a bit by using a heavier yarn and a bigger hook, as it looks quite small following the original pattern’s recommendations..
I only made a few minimal changes to the pattern, most notably, I added a few rounds to the body make her taller, and I worked the body in reverse, so as to leave an opening for the tree top to go in (otherwise the bottom would have been closed). And I made a couple of minor changes to the wings, which I MIGHT add one more round/layer of stitches to yet to make them bigger …. otherwise, the wings are barely visible from the front for the purpose and position I am using the angel for. A good basic pattern and a nice, quick, fun project, though she is top- and front-heavy and may have a tendency to fall over if left free-standing.
I didn’t do the hair strands; I started but didn’t care for them. I thought the bun was enough. Plus, it’s less work!
Oh yes, and at the end of the day, in true Doctor Who fashion, I decided that my angel looked a little pale and needed a nice, long, colourful striped scarf. Look familiar, Whovians? :D (I didn’t have the right colours on hand and had to steal them from an old Christmas needlepointing kit, which is why there are two different greens. I thought it seemed somehow appropriately Doctor-ly, though.) :)
