3 strands held together. All sts worked in the back loop (to get nice ridge throughout), rounds in continuous spiral. Size K hook was still really tight and hard on my hands. Next time, will try L or M size.
This one was trial and error… started with 6 sc in magic ring, this was too few sts for the bulk. Some rounds, I added more sts, some fewer, to get it to lay flat. I ended up with a multiple of 8 several rounds in, thinking that might be ideal.
Mainly, need to lay it out after each round to see what to do in the following round. If it’s rippling, maybe do no increases in the next round. In the video below, after the first several rounds, she alternates between plain rounds and increase rounds. I didn’t alternate, rather, I added in plain (non-increase) rounds only if it was beginning to ripple. Otherwise, I kept increasing 8 times each round.
Tip: put st markers into the sts where the increases will go. Shift them around a bit before each round so you avoid points/corners at the increases.
Next time, I’ll start with this method from the get-go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGQzR7Nr_XY
I’m also trying magic knot for joining for the first time ever. We shall see how it holds up…

My grandma’s rug is 38” in diameter, so that is my goal size.
Final size: just over 37” diameter.
