SOLD $450 46” 4 shaft/6 treadle Walling loom with sectional beam and Cam-action system. Built by Bill Walling in 1966 in Hollywood, California. The wood is red birch. It measures 54” wide and 40” long and has a 46” weaving width. I am including an original Walling warping board, a Leclerc bench that I stained to match, a J-Made tension box, a 10-dent stainless steel reed, 400 new insert-eye heddles, and a rug shuttle and a boat shuttle.
It has a very strong ratchet brake and gets tight tension so you can weave rugs as well as more delicate items. All the shafts slide smoothly in metal slots. It’s original hardware is in great shape. It is in good condition with a few character marks. For example, one of the shafts is slightly bowed but this does not affect its use. I put texsolv cords on the treadles and apron rod and made new cords for the sectional beam.
The loom breaks down for transport and all the parts were manufactured with embossed numbers. I would prefer a local sale (Southern California)and can help move it with our truck if you’ll pay for gas. I am willing to ship this loom if you will cover the cost of packing and shipping. I can get you a shipping estimate.
I am this loom’s second owner. I bought it from the son of the original owner who was a professional weaver. Walling was her friend and this loom was made for her; her son said it was her favorite loom. He had sold all of his mother’s other weaving looms and equipment but he kept this one for many years, unable to part with it. He kept paste wax on the wood. When he finally decided to pass it on, he was a bit picky about who the new owner would be. He had tears in his eyes when I drove away with it in 2014. I learned to weave on it, and the only reason I am selling it is because a large Swedish countermarch loom has come into my life and I can’t keep both. I am looking for someone who will appreciate this beautiful loom.
This loom is the prototype of the patent that Russ Groff bought from Walling and renamed the Oregon Trail loom.
