My second pair of socks knitted on 9 inch circulars. I’m getting the hang of it, finally, so it makes sense to acquire some more needles in different sizes.
I find that as long as I have at least 70 sts on the needles, the knitting goes smoothly.

Speaking about sizes - I’ve used 2 mm and 3 mm needles. It would’ve been more appropriate to use 2.5 for the leg. It turned out to be huge.

Another gadget I tried with this project is a Norwegian knitting thimble. It certainly was useful - my Fair Isle looks neater on the toe. What I’m unhappy about though is that I can’t figure out a way to tension yarns with the thimble while using the 9-inch circulars - sooo uncomfortable. Yarns get tangled and twisted. The result is neat, but the process was so slow…

Notes:

Tubular CO 78 sts
Cuff - 2 mm Magic Loop
Leg (chart) - switch to 3mm Chiaogoo 9 inch.
Reinforced heel flap - still on 3 mm.
Heel turn: switch to 2 mm again and knit with two strands of yarn of the same colour.
Shape gussets - with two strands of yarn.
Picked up 19 sts at the sides. Used dpns for this round.
1st “around” round - with two strands
After that - top 39 sts - single strand, gussets and bottom - double.
Decreased the number of sts to 72.
Toe - double stranded.
