Notes

This pattern is wonderful, and this was an experiment to see how it works with fewer reps of the cable pattern. This is 5 repeats, and makes a cozy neckwarmer.

Uses Bordhi moebius cast-on. It was challenging at first, but now I love it. My trick? I used stitch markers as I was casting on, so I wouldn’t have to stop and keep counting, and have stitches popping off the end. The cable repeat uses 24 stitches -- so I placed a marker after every 24 stitches, and just counted for how many repeats I was after. (The last marker will be the end of round marker; I used a special, different one.)

In this mobius, the cast-on is the midline of the cowl, and as you work, you fill out towards each edge. (Like a figure 8 that’s been folded where they cross over, and you keep knitting along the top loop, then the bottom loop = 1 round.) The mirror reflection of the halves of the moebius must line up perfectly. I’ve made 5 of these now, and each time I thought there was a problem, but by the time I’d worked my way around the first round, everything worked out -- or did, with slight adjustment.

Once you’ve cast on and established your pattern row, the rest is just fun. It’s a 12-round repeat (worked twice, so the cowl is completed after 24 rows), but only four double cable rounds require much attention. The rest of the rounds are just ribbing, of sorts.

This came out exactly as I thought it would, and I finished it with one skein, with a good bit to spare. (Probably took 160-175 yards, tops.) With 5 repeats, it’s a snug, cozy gaiter that funnels to hug the neck.
