It’s Gorgeous! I love it!I was so sure this wouldn’t work out, but I trusted it and kept going, and it’s gorgeous!
I’m even loving the yarn. It worked out beautifully -- thick, soft, and lovely. And warm!
I was concerned about the edge rolling, so frogged it a couple of times. Cable cast-on didn’t work; finally liked the same old long-tail cast-on I always use. Quite a feat, with 224 stitches!
I added Vikkel (Estonian) braid to try to keep the edge from rolling. It doesn’t do the trick entirely, but it looks nice (it should, after hours of work!) and goes with the design. I may crochet a chain along the top of the braid, to make the edge too heavy to roll. And maybe do the same where I picked up stitches for the hood.
There’s a ton of moss stitch for the hood. I love the way it looks, but I hate doing it. It just gives the piece a different texture -- not soft. Wish I could find another stitch to substitute, but this of course works perfectly.
Loved the tiny i-cord edging for the hood! It’s perfect, and I’m going to be using that a lot.
I used US8 needles (Addi 47”, although 36” would do) because of the slightly sturdier yarn, and everything’s worked out beautifully. Uses a lot of yarn, but it’s well worth it! Going to do another as soon as I finish this!
I had a bunch of yarn leftover, and I was stash-busting, so I took the advice of friends (every one of whom said, “Why doesn’t it come down over your shoulders?”), and picked up some stitches by the Vikkel braid, and knitted downwards, adding a few inches, and that enabled me to finish off the bottom edge with more of the icord bindoff, to match the front of the hood.
I’m sending it to a friend in Canada (brrr-rr-rr!) who has to work 20 hours a day on the computer. Hopefully this will help her keep warm!
