we came up with this idea for my father-inlaw for xmas. he was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Navy when he served. in fact, at xmas 2023, i told my father-inlaw i’d have something for him for xmas 2024.

but then in January 2024, he went into the hospital for some medical issues. solme voice in my head told me to make this for him now and i finished it the day before my husband visited back where we lived before our move in October 2022. he went out to visit his parents, and go into the office for a few days.

hubby gave his father the blanket on Sunday, January 28, and he was in awe and very impressed with it. despite my questioning of if the design was recognizable, my father-inlaw knew what it was right away. he still had it on the hospital bed when i visited him on February 6th. he was asleep the whole time i was there.

he died the night of February 7th, 2024. most likely, the blanket was still on his bed.
but I’m glad i listened to the voice that said make the blanket, as well as the voice that told me to visit him when i did, and not wait until the weekend.
