Notes

10/6/15 - DONE!! Just need to sew on the turtles. It’s so cute.

10/1/15 - Just realized that the Vanna’s Choice has different yardage, so i’m going to stop the light blue section a bit early, so it looks good … it’s still a pretty good size for a baby/toddler. :)

9/6/15 - Done with first color … total 13” height. This is going to be the PERFECT size for a child. :)

8/27/15 - I wasn’t sure how much yarn to buy, so I got 2 balls each of 3 colors of blue. One ball done yields 7” of blanket ridges. (it’s 50” across)

Once you get through the first couple of rows, it’s super easy and fun to work. :)

Start by chaining 171 stitches across.
The pattern repeat is 14, plus 3 extra for the turning chain, which counts as a double crochet.

Row 1: Dc in 4th chain from hook. Dc in next 4 sts, decrease 2x, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, repeat from * to * across the row, ending with 2 dc in last st.
Laura’s notes … this is written a bit incorrectly (as-written makes you think you should have 2sts at the end for 2dc each, but you only have 1 stitch left for 2dc in that stitch
Should be:
Row 1: Dc in 4th chain from hook, Dc in next 4 sts, dc2tog (2x), dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts, dc in next 4 sts, repeat from * to , 2 dc in last st.**

Row 2: Chain 3, turn. This counts as the first dc of the row. Dc in same st (you now have 2 dc). Dc in each of next 4 sts, decrease 2x, dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in each of next 2 sts,* repeat from * to * across row, ending with 2 dc in last st.

(same notes for Row 2 … there is only the 1 stitch at the end, for 2dc in that stitch…)

Notes from sewloca.com’s blog

color change to white after the light blue section. Do two regular rows of white. At that second row of white, split up the colors. In the front loops (of the base white row) you will continue the white. In the back loops (of the base white row) you will begin the sand colored section. That way, the remainder of the white layer kind of floats above the sand layer.

I don’t remember how many floating white layers I did, but it looks like maybe one or two? I linked the bobble stitch I did in the post. It was a bobble of 4 dc stitches. I just put them on randomly where I thought they might look good.
