June 22, 2012 - today is the day we cast on … is it still called that when you start a crochet project?? so much to learn

2012 - my mom crochets & has a wool allergy so she’s sadly been left out of all the fun the knitwits have been having with our knitting and wooly yarn adventures

this past Christmas, I gifted both my mom and I this pretty vintage inspired pattern from one of the greatest yarn shops around, and I picked yarn out for both of our projects (hers is a washable acrylic/nylon blend), from my other favorite lys in the area and wrapped it all up for her gift with the hope that we would spend time together working on these blankets and enjoying each other’s company….and with the added benefit for me that I get to learn how to crochet from my mom ;)

helpful hints:

• if you cast on 310st ~ you will end up with 20 peaks and 9st of chain leftover at the end of your foundation row
• gauge: all the pattern says is 2 1/2” ‘peak to peak or valley to valley’ … I got exactly that peak to peak horizontally (stitch gauge) but not vertically (row gauge) so I assume it just applies to stitch gauge? 1st color sequence measures 4 3/4” so my blanket is going to be about…38” long!?!?! I’m probably going to end up with something closer to the throw size but it’s too pretty to rip out and it will still be functional so I’m leaving it as is
