Q: I want to mix yarn weights, but I want my puffs to be the same-ish size.

Is that possible? a: Yes! Owlies are successfully mixing worsted and sock weight puffs. ;) The recommendation is to cast on 2 stitches less and increase to 4 stitches less for DK, and cast on 4 stitches less and increase to 8 stitches less for worsted. ? “I have been working in aran/worsted, aiming for 3in hexipuffs (measured across the widest part, point to point).

Using 4mm dpns, I cast on 16 st (8 per side) increased to 32 (16 per side) as for sock yarn (knit one round, increase one round) and decreased back to 16 (8).

You will end up doing four increase rows and four decrease rows.

I knit a little loosely though, so you’ll probably need to adjust the needle size/stitch count for your tension.

As a general principle, to get a hexipuff you need to increase to double the number of cast on stitches (someone correct if wrong!).“

I slowed on these for a long time, and have recently rediscovered my love and knocked out a bunch more. I still have a LOT of miniskeins to use, and got a sampler of Knitpicks new Hawthorne. Gonna use all those, too.

I’ve done 18 more so far in 2015. I’ve given up identifying what yarns I’m using - either leftover stash, or miniskeins from co-ops, or from friends sending me their stash leftovers! :D Puffs continue to be my “can’t do anything else? PUFF!” go to project.
