I will use calculations from the green v-neck project: https://ravel.me/ulrikawiss/tmcfrs5
She wants a more shallow V so I will increase every other row.
I will do the whole thing back and forth, i.e. no steeking. This is because I will use intarsia for the color blocks.
The needle for the knit round is 4mm, the needle for the purl round 3.75mm

It was completely infeasible to do the top down raglan with this many colors. I will do it in pieces and seam instead!
I started with the back panel, bottom up. Then I can calculate sleeve decreases once I have knitted a bit.
I co 3 colors, 40st for each color plus one extra st on each edge.
I used German twisted co on the main needle. This meant that my first round was purl.
For the side stitches, I did purl at the beginning of each round and twisted knit at the end of each round.

I have knit about 17cm on the back piece. Time to compare gauge between unwashed knitting and washed swatch so I don’t get the final measurements wrong.
Row gauge:
- washed swatch 14r/5cm
- live knitting 15r/5cm This means that to get a 20cm high color block I only need to knit 18.66 cm
Stitch gauge:
- washed swatch 20st/10cm
- live knitting 21.5st/10cm This means that to get a 20cm wide color block I only need to knit 18.60 cm

I am about half way through the back, so time to “sketch” the raglan decreases. I use my finished fabric and stitch a standard raglan decrease rate starting from the center square. I think it works out really well. See picture for measurements.

Starting the decreases after 42r of block two. I start with binding off 10st at each end, and then proceed to decrease every other row.
The decreases will be made 2st in (edge st plus one normal st).

Note: edge st are done by purling the 1st stitch of each row, and knitting the last st of each row twisted (through the back loop).

I finished the back! Bound off the “normal” way on the purl side, in purl. I think it’s ok with a tighter bo here, but I did it as loosely as possible.
I will do the front panels at the same time on the same needle.
Co 62 for each front panel: 1.5 color plus two edge stitches.

Front panels done. Sleeve decreases done exactly like back. V-neck decreases started at the same point as sleeve decreases, but only every 4th row. 5st left when I bound off.
I will do sleeves top down to make it easier to try on for length. I will co 10 for each sleeve. The color blocks will be different, only one color per row and not as long.

I have knitted the raglan increases for the sleeves and joined to knit in the round. Did some measurements on the recipient:
- the sleeves should be about 67cm total length
- I should decrease about 20st on each sleeve before the cuff (she wants a bit of a puffy sleeve)

All sections knitted, washed and pinned to a blanket to dry flat
Measurements are exactly like we wanted them. Color choices for the left front are not perfect, they repeat the colors of the back.
Colors of ribbings chosen by the daughter:
- right sleeve yellow
- left sleeve purple
- bottom beige
- front pink
2x2 ribbing

I did the ribbing in garter stitch instead. Needles 3.25mm.
