Notes

This hat fits generously at first. The rolled edge can be rolled up or down to fit. I’ve found that this hat fits for a long time because the cotton stretches over time--perfect for growing heads! And who wouldn’t want to wear the places of Pi encircling their head at least into middle school! My phone doesn’t accurately capture purples. The hat is a bright purple; tassels are orange, fuschia, and lime.

Hat pattern:
CO 80 sts.
K 8”, then start dec.
(8” for 24 mos. size, 6.25” for 12 mos. size)
K6, K2 tog to end.
K5, etc until 6 sts left.
Pull yarn through 6 sts.

Pattern starts on row 19 from the bottom. Numbers and symbols in a band 18 rows tall.

I’ve included a pictorial tutorial of how to make a tassel. The needle gauge isn’t required--cardboard will do, but it does make a sturdy template for the yarn wrapping.
