If a handsoccupied shares a pretty stitch motif on the Internet, it will probably be seen by a Valerie. And if a Valerie sees a pretty knitting pattern, she will probably want to make it. So, she’ll head over to Ravelry.
Once she gets to Ravelry, Valerie will spend some time looking at patterns that have nothing to do with what she was looking for. Then, she will spot a pretty scarf, and it will remind her to search for a pattern using the motif that Heidi shared. When she searches for a pattern, it will probably lead her to thisMoss Diamond and Lozenge Shoulder Wrap. Seeing the shawl will remind her of her mother, whose birthday is coming up. When Valerie remembers her mother’s birthday is coming, she’ll want to make her something nice as a present. She’ll look at the motif, and look at her stash, and decide to make a pretty scarf. She’ll get so excited to make the scarf using such a pretty pattern, she’ll almost forget how to do the pattern, and she’ll have to go back to handsoccupied’s original post. When she sees the pretty knitting pattern, she will probably head straight to Ravelry again. And when a Valerie goes to Ravelry, she’ll probably spend a lot of time looking at patterns that have nothing to do with what she’s looking for.

All If You Give A Mouse A Cookie-style descriptions aside, I loved the gorgeous stitch motif Heidi posted, and I know my mom will love it, too. She spent all of November and December making scarves for everyone in the family except herself, so I know she really needs one. Instead of making the whole shawl, I just copied the stitch pattern and added a few garter stitches to the edges so it won’t curl up.
