Notes

Started this one evening after realizing that I only had one warm winter hat suitable for skiing. It was a toss-up between this and Koolhas, but Shedir came out the victor on this occasion. I’ll knit Koolhas at some point, I’m sure.

Cast on as per pattern and so far it’s great. I’ve always loved the density achieved through using a DK or worsted on smallish needles.

I did four repeats of the patterned section, which proved to be a little (read: almost 2”) too long. As you can see in one of my photos.

I did not like the look of the brim rolled up in light of the increased stitches creating little holes, which are more easily visible from the inside (or outside, when the brim is rolled), but I simply couldn’t bring myself to undo the top and shorten the whole works to two or three pattern repeats. I though this would look unbalanced, somehow.

So my solution (which works great in a dry run) is that I am turning the brim up inside the hat, to make a band inside to cover my ears. This eliminates the visible ribbed edging and makes the patterning start right at the edge of the hat (which is a pretty nice effect). Once I finish stitching it in place, I’ll post a photo.

All-in-all, though, this was a nice knit and the results are spectacular, fit beautifully (insofar as diameter is concerned) and are warm and classy.
