Notes

I love knitty and Franklin Habit’s adventures in vintage patterns. I also love cowls and plaid and happened to have all that Grace laying around. Yay! Using size 4 needles because that’s what I have.
Heres how I organized the colors:
C1 ginger
C2 azure
C3 tangelo
C4 lilac
C5 terracotta
2013-12-06: This is a quick project-I’m already almost finished with the first set of stripes! I am using a technique I learned when I made a Dr Who scarf(Tara Carstensen) about weaving in ends as you work. It saves a lot of time later and the piece looks great. I’m also taking Habit’s advice about carrying a color within 4 rows. Look at me, planning, reading directions! I should do that more often.
2014-6-12: I took out the too-short vertical rows and made more that are the correct length. I’ll weave everything in (again) then follow the directions more closely. hehe

2013-12-23: I ran out of the ginger, so I used lime I found in my stash. I like the color changes a lot. Sewing in the vertical stripes is fun but I may have done so too tightly, since when I went to try it on after a whole set of them it won’t fit over my head. I think I can just loosen them, but I need to take a break first…I also think I cast on 84 instead of 74. Sheesh. Still, I like it, I’ll salvage it soon.
2014-6-30: I’m going to have to break down and buy more colors. Now I’m almost out of the blue. I’ll buy more mint and more blue and do the stripes over again, and not worry about the color changes and running out of yarn. Whew! A project to learn from, but a fun one.

More yarn ordered! I’ll start the stripes over when it comes in and be careful to measure them correctly this time. Should be a quick finish!

12-08-2015

Whew that’s a lot of ends! I might weave them in as I finish a section.

09-09-2016

I’m weaving in the stripes and noticing that it’s hard for me to keep them the right tension to fit on my head, so I think I’ll try putting a small pillow in the cowl to make it the right circumference while I’m weaving. Then I can turn it inside out, put the pillow back in and weave in all those ends without worrying about losing the width.

P.S.i can’t believe this WIP is three years old!!

09-18-2016

Finally finished! The pillow saved this project. I was able to get the stripes on with the right tension and I flipped it over the get the ends. It took awhile but it was relaxing. I ended up tying the ends together with a surgeon knot instead of weaving the ends. It was faster and easier for me and I cant feel the knots at all.
I’m so excited to wear this to the Taos Wool Festival!
