Notes

I wanted to knit both socks at the same time, so I started by winding off half into a ball. Then I casted on using two circular needles. The cast on technique was new to me, but I got the hang of it and it’s nicely stretchy. I also liked the heel technique of picking up purl bumps and not needing to knit tbl. I followed the pattern pretty much exactly, with only a few small changes:

  • I put the purl row after the ribbing at one of the colour changes
  • I started the heel right before the last orange stripe (using the image on the ball band for reference). I wanted the gusset to be the purple/yellow gradient, and that worked out perfectly.
  • I started the toe decreases right before I got to the solid pink section. I only did the purl ridge on the top of the foot, but the bottom.

I only had a tiny bit of wool left over when I finished the toes. (I wear size US9.5/EU41 shoes.) If you have a bigger foot, you might need to start the heel earlier, which means you might get some pink stripe in the gusset.
