Finished!

I actually started this project way back in 2015 and then it languished. I was unhappy with my technique on the fairisle, so at the start of 2017 I frogged it completely and started over.

Because the back of the vest is plain (to avoid it being too warm, and because I knew he’d mostly wear it with a jacket), that meant I had to knit the front flat (aka back-and-forth). The trickiest bit is on the purl side, of course, and I used the technique of draping one of the yarns around my neck and “twanging” it over the needle. I created a YouTube video showing how I did it, if you’re interested.

The pattern came from Bex’s site and was originally published in the November 1935 issue of Stitchcraft. I really only used the pattern for the motif itself. For the sizing and shaping, I used an existing men’s vest pattern that I knew fit him well.
