Notes

I call this my “Double Twist X-Factor” cable pattern. It is a modification of the Clustered Braid pattern from pp. 186-187 of A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara G. Walker.

Cast on: 80 st, needle size US1.
Mark beginning of round.
K2, P2 rib for 10 rounds.
Setup Round: (P1, K1) in first stitch, (K1,P1) in second stitch {this sets up the twisted rib section}, (P2, FC {front cross K2 over P1}, BC {back cross P1 behind K2}) twice, P2. Repeat this 20 stitch section 3 more times. (Total 88 stitches.)

Remaining leg rounds (1-36):
Odd rounds: P in purl stitches and K in knit stitches.
Even rounds:
Work twisted rib over 4 stitches: P1, K2tog without taking stitches off left needle, K1 in front stitch and slip both stitches off needle, P1.
Work Double Cross X-Factor cable pattern (will include as photo).
Repeat 3 more times.

For heel, work 48 stitches across instep and hold.
Work Heel Stitch (with size US2 needles) across 40 stitches for 40 rounds.

{Note: I grabbed size 2 needles on accident because I was using them for another project. Wanted this to be accurate so didn’t change back to US1.}

Work Square Heel turn in Eye of Partridge stitch with division of 13/14/13.

Continue with US1 needle by picking up 22 stitches on each side of heel (2 extra each side to prevent gaps).

Work gusset decreases and sole in stockinette and continue cable pattern across instep until sole is back to 40 stitches. Work straight from that point until completing last round (round 24) of pattern.

Begin toe decreases (will include chart as photo).
