This sock design was inspired by an Encanto sweatshirt that I bought at Disneyland in the spring of 2023. I wanted something that would be warm enough to wear in chilly sweatshirt weather and simple enough to showcase the gorgeous colors of the hand-dyed yarn. The nice thing is, both the rib and the brioche are two-stitch repeats, so it’s SUPER easy to adjust for any size leg. Just cast on an even number of stitches and you’re ready to go!
Color A - Aqua
Color B - Multicolor speckled pink
With Color A
CO 72 stitches
Note: I used the Double Start cast on, which resulted in an odd number of stitches, so I cast on 73 stitches and did a P2tog as my first rib stitch to compensate.
Place marker for start of round and join for working in the round. I use a 9” circular needle.
Rib
Rounds 1-12: (P1, K1) repeat to end of round.
With Color B
Fluffy Brioche
Round 1: (P1, sl 1 wyif, YO) repeat to end of round.
Round 2: (K1, K2tog) repeat to end of round.
Round 3: (Sl 1 wyif, YO, P1) repeat to end of round.
Round 4: (K2tog, K1) repeat to end of round.
Rounds 5-48: Repeat Rounds 1-4.
This pattern is shaped to fit my legs, but of course every person is different. The general format for decreasing is to prep on the odd numbered round before the decrease: For the section (shin side or calf side) to be decreased, change any (sl 1 wyif, YO) pairs in the first and last three stitch zone into (sl 1 wyib) instead.
Round 49: Work 28st in pattern, place marker for end of shin. Setup first 3st and last 3st of the remaining section (calf) for decrease on following round.
Round 50: Work shin section in pattern, slip marker. SSSK, work calf in pattern to last 3st, K3tog.
Continue in pattern, decreasing calf on following rounds:
54, 56, 58.
Round 60: Decrease on both the shin section and calf section.
Total stitch count: 48st (24st each shin and calf).
Rounds 61-130: Repeat rounds 1-4.
Round 131: (Shin - this section to become instep) Setup for decrease on following round.
(Calf - this section to become heel) ^Sl 1 wyif, YO, (P1, K1 in next st), sl1 wyif, YO, P1; repeat from ^ to end.
Round 132: (Instep) SSSK, work in pattern to last 3st, K3tog.
(Heel) ^K2tog, K2, K2tog, K1; repeat from ^ to end.
Total stitch count: 50st (20st instep, 30st heel).
Work 20st (instep) in pattern.
