CO 8 st per needle (use Judy’s Magic Cast On)
Knit 1 round.

Add two needles (total 4 dpns), adjust to 4 stitches per needle.

First 2 needles = instep
Second 2 needles = sole

Round 1: Kfb, pm, Kfb, K5, pm, Kfb
(repeat with sole)

Rounds 2-14: Work as directed by pattern.

Round 15: K6, remove marker, Kfb, K to marker, remove marker, K to end of instep.
(repeat with sole)

Adjust to have 12 stitches per needle (total 48 stitches across 4 needles).

Rounds 16-18: Knit.

Color #2 (Dragon Tail)
Work Zigzag Pattern as for Child’s Large, but EXCLUDE the following (counting from right to left):
Columns 1, 14, 15, 28

Work 2 complete pattern repeats. Begin gusset increases on the next row (Row 1 of third pattern iteration). Continue until pattern is complete (Row 16--8 total increases).

Heel Turn:
Row 1: K22, ssk, K1, turn.
Continue with directions as written until 25 stitches remain.

Personal note: I am not a fan of this heel turn. Perhaps it is because this is my first toe-up pattern, but it seems to me the heel needs more rows. It feels too short.

Row 1: K21, ssk, K1, turn

Row 2: (Sl1, P1) twice, P2tog, P1, turn

Row 3: Sl1, knit to 1 stitch from gap, ssk, K1, turn

Row 4: (Sl1, P1) to 1 stitch from gap, P2tog, P1, turn

Rows 5-16: Repeat rows 3 and 4 until there are 24 stitches left (2 unworked stitches on each side).

Row 17: Sl1, K20, turn (1 stitch unworked)

Row 18: (Sl1, P1) 11 times, turn (1 stitch unworked)

Row 19: Sl1, knit to end, turn

Row 20: (Sl1, P1) across to end, turn

Row 21: Knit to 1 stitch from end.
With first instep needle, lift a loop from horizontal strand connecting sole to instep, from back to front (as if to M1R).
Slip last stitch to instep needle.
With working needle, K2tog (last stitch plus lifted strand).

Work around instep in pattern.

Before starting back of leg, use first sole needle to lift a loop from horizontal strand connecting sole to instep, from back to front.

P2tog as first stitch of back pattern.

Leg:

Continue in pattern for 1.5 pattern repeats, ending on Row 9.

Work 11 rows.
