05.28.15 I’ve almost finished the first glove, but I am not satisfied with the outcome. It’s too big, and I had to end the pattern early so as not to run out of yarn. I am going to reknit this on smaller needles and probably go ahead and split the yarn into two balls so that I know exactly how much I have for each mitten.
On the upside, the colors are absolutely lovely, and it’s a very fun knit.
06.09.15 The first large mitten was frogged, and the two skeins of cotton were rewound so they would not be such a hot mess. On the new mitten, the size 0 needles are giving me both a size and stitch definition that is just perfect. I am just above the start of the thumb gusset. The gusset gave me a bit of trouble because I was quite tired when I got to that section, and the written instructions were quite minimal and confusion. After a few false starts and some drawings, I have it on track.
06.17.15 I finished reworking the first mitt last week, and it was really perfect. I also knit the 2nd mitt, and it was just wrong. Too long, not tight enough, and I ran out of yarn on the last round of the CC. I’m taking a break from this pattern to gather my courage to reknit the 2nd mitt. It’s hard to believe that when I have completed this project, I will have knit both mitts twice.
06.23.15 These mitts are officially cursed. I reknit the 2nd mitt, and it was too small. The thumb gusset is like half the size. OMG, what is wrong with me. So I’m going to redo it again, but it’s going to have to hibernate for a little while so I don’t burn it. T_T
05.29.16 After a year of letting these cursed mitts hibernate, I had to finish them because I went back to the fiber festival where I had originally gotten the yarn. I felt guilty about more yarn from the same vendor, and I couldn’t knit with new yarn until I finished these. So I just finished up the last inch (in a totally different gauge). The 2nd mitt is slightly too small, but my sister came over and helped me block it. We wet it and let her wear it to stretch it out because her hand and wrist are so much larger than mine, and it worked! The 2nd mitt is now shorter than the first, but it fits!
I think I can get over the differences in the two and be able to wear them. If not, they will make a fabulous Christmas gift to someone who will love them.
