05.08.12 I am doing a granny square a day in May to help put a dent in this project. I’ve put it off in favor of other projects the past few months, and I’d like to have this finished for my husband to use in the fall and winter.
07.29.12 Finishing all the granny squares for this blanket has become my project for the 2012 Ravellenics. After finishing 5 squares today, that brings my total to 31 squares. I need 91 total squares for the blanket. I am worried that I will run out of yarn because my husband wants a size larger than what I originally had in mind. So I guess I will just be making as many granny squares as I can from the yarn I have.
08.10.12 When I originally ordered yarn for this afghan, I used some online yardage calculator. I only have about 2/3 of what I actually need. I can’t order more yarn before the end of the Ravellenics, but I will use up all the skeins I have. I have definitely put a big dent into the numbers of squares I need. I have calculated that I need 8 more skeins (four of each color) to finish the squares. I’m not sure how many skeins I need to join all the squares.
08.11.12 I am out of yarn. I have 53 squares done of the 77 I need. I’m trying to figure out how much yarn I need to order to finish this up.
07.19.13 After a long hiatus, I have finally ordered the yarn I need to finish this blanket. My husband has requested that I finish the blanket before the end of the year so he can snuggle with it in the winter.
02.22.14 I have crocheted 14 red and 1 white square for the Ravellenic Winter Games. I may have done too many actually. I have 41 red and 42 white. Now I need to block these puppies, weave in some ends, and start crocheting them together. At long last, I might have a blanket soon.
Husband wants it wider…I need 5 more red. End in sight. End in sight…
07.03.14 I had to order more yarn to finish this up. Just to be sure I had plenty, I order 3 more red and 1 more white. The yarn arrived today, so I should be finishing this up soon!
10.15.14 All 99 squares are joined, and the first round of the border is complete. It took about half a skein of yarn to do one round of the border. At this point, I have two full skeins of both red and white left to complete the border. I think I will do two rounds of white and then one round of red to finish it off.
10.26.14 I did the first round of white, and it felt so complete. I tried to do a few inches of another round of white, and it didn’t look right, not the way it looked right when I started doing the first round of white. The white is so crisp and bold. It felt done, and it looked done. The white border really pulls it together. The round of red around the border didn’t look like a border - it just gave the same thickness to the outside red that was in between all the squares. I can’t wait to get some pictures of it. I’m not telling my husband that it is finished. I’m going to surprise him when he comes to visit (he just moved out of state, and kiddo and I won’t join him till I graduate in December).
