Notes

10.31.14 It is just starting to turn chilly here, so I wanted to knit my son a hat for winter. This pattern is super easy to follow, and I like how nice the ear flaps look for this. The brim is rolling a little, but it doesn’t roll when it is on. The yarn is bulky alpaca. It was so soft to knit with. The alpaca brushed out really well to make the fuzzy pompoms.

The alpaca yarn was in a hank, so I used a toilet paper roll and my office chair to wind it into a center pull ball. I knit from both ends to make the flaps. I wound a little tight, so I ended up working from the outside, which was fine. I used the long tail cast on method for the initial 3 stitches and the backwards loop cast on for when it was time to knit in the round.

The color of the yarn goes from almost white to purple with several shades of blue in between. The purple doesn’t show up in photos, so I’ve got to try and get an outside picture. My son wore it for all of 6 seconds before taking it off. Go figure. He generally likes hats, so he should warm up to it. It fits him nicely, but I didn’t bother to measure his head before I made the pattern.
