Notes
  • Obviously, I omitted the hood. With smaller needles, I picked up the stitches that I would have for the hood, and k2p2 rib. I knit it 7.5” long. Make sure that you do your ribbing to match the cables in the garment like they do on the waistband and wristbands. This may seem obvious to most of you, but it was just a lucky accident for me.
  • Added about 2” to length.
  • Used 1-row buttonholes for the first time. Fantastic looking. (http://www.neoknits.com/2009/03/one-row-buttonhole-tutorial/)
  • Did all sleeve and shoulder cap decreases 2 stitches in. Much easier to seam, and very professional looking. By the way, this was one of the most perfectly fitting sleeve caps I have ever knitted. It matched up stitch for stitch.
  • Picked up 4 stitches for every 5 rows of knitting for the button band. Had to adjust this slightly to make sure that I had the right number of ribs for my buttonholes to line up evenly. Pick up your stitches, figure out how many ribs that will make on the buttonband, and then see if your buttons will fit evenly (ie. 3 ribs between each button…)

I did knit this at a slightly tighter gauge, but this sweater definitely knit up smaller than I would have thought. My bust is 33, and there is about one inch of positive ease. Also, the sleeves are snug, but perfect for me. All in all, it exactly the size I wanted it. I’m glad I didn’t knit the 32, which is what I would have knit if not for the comments on Ravelry regarding size.

This yarn is very nice and soft. Perhaps a little too many tweedy bits, but I can always pluck a few off (lots of them are just kind of hanging there). Found some nice coconut-shell buttons that are a perfect match.

All in all, this is really the perfect wear-around-on-the-weekend cardigan. It is just SO wearable. It fits great and its’ simplicity is really beautiful. I see why everyone loves theirs.
