I use the entire ball of yarn I crocheted it till I was about out as I really wanted the dark purple on the bottom so it is a little longer than I intended but I really like it. I did do a double crochet band all around the edges and four rows a double crochet on the end of the sleeves. The top yoke did take me reading over it a couple times till I understood what I was supposed to do.
