Notes
  • Donation for Fundraising at Gallery North for this cause.

  • Video Tutorial

  • To prevent a “gap” in between Tail Feathers: Steps 18 and 27:
    Cable cast on is indicated (i.e. 10 or 11 stitches) Cast on an extra st (i.e. 11 and 12) When you “knit the entire row “, K2tog at the gap at your first CO stitch

  • Use the 3 needle bind-off to join the two tail sections. Knit each tail section with the same number of rows. (41) This gives you the correct stitch count when you pick up the stitches for the chicken body.

  • Added Mosaic knitting for interest as follows:

MC = Laser Lemon (Yellow)
CC = Orange

  • After Picking up for Chicken body (73 stitches), knit one WS Row with MC

  • Mosaic Row 1 (RS CC) - k2, * slip one stitch purlwise with yarn held in back, k3 * , sl1p wyib, k2.

  • Mosaic Row 2 (WS CC) - k2, slip one stitch purlwise with yarn held in FRONT, * k3, sl1p wyif * , k2.

  • Mosaic Row 3 (RS MC) - k2, * k2, sl1p wyib, k1 * , k3.

  • Mosaic Row 4 (WS MC) - k3, * k1, sl1p wyif, k2 * , k2.

  • Then knit 2 rows MC before repeating 4 rows of Mosaic Pattern. You could repeat the Mosaic pattern right away without the plain dividing rows. I wanted the CC sections to look more distinct. Also with the dividing rows this pattern works out perfectly for this 17 row section of the ESC Pattern.

  • Added two extra rows to the neck.

  • Used Sunny Day for the beak with Size 6 DPNs.

  • For the beak after there were 5 stitches I purled back and then K 1, slip one, K2 tog, PSSO, K 1; pull through the 3 remaining stitches and then did the seaming.

  • Leave long tails on the undersection for sewing up the chicken.

  • Double Wattle (knit the wattle and before ending it did a few plain rows and then knit the pattern in reverse.) I attach this with an extra piece of yarn (sew it down).

  • Created an inner “beanbag” with nylon sock and Poly-Fil Poly-Pellets

  • Source for Safety Eyes

  • Goal of 25 Emotional Support Chickens in 2025. (25in25ESC) This is #25 in 2025 and overall ESC #79
