Notes

1 apr: finished it yesterday, needs a wash and photos!

29 mar: finished the neckline last night! Need to seam up the armpits, neckline, attach the button, and weave in a handful of ends.

28 mar: All I have left is the front neckline, I’ve finished from the front left to the front right. Go go go! I need to join a new ball now though. I may try it on and see how it sits now that this much is done. I fear I may have to rip it out and bring the neckline in more…

27 mar: ripped out the edge again, restarted last night. Switched to US5 for the picked up stitches around the neckline as well as for the edge. It is much tidier. Pulling taut the p2tog at the edge on a US5 helped me a LOT. I’m only to the start of the first shoulder - the cabled bit isn’t a quick knit for me. I’m a little concerned it won’t be wide enough now to fit properly or that the edge is going to pull up too much at the rev stst i-cord. I suppose we shall see.

26 mar: finished the body, am knitting on the cabled edge now. I tried it on before I started the edge and it is too wide across the shoulders (despite my extra decreases) but with an extra ~3” from the neckline edge, I think it will work out. I hope so anyway. Otherwise the fit is really good.

I’ve ripped out the neckline edge twice already. I’m having some issue with where it connects to the body, it just looks hole-y and not so tidy. I’ve taken to pulling the purl stitch after the sl1 on the RS really tight but I still end up with that edge stitch being a little too loose. Not sure why.

22 mar: rows are getting shorter. I’m a little nervous about the decreasing I’m using, afraid it’s still going to be too large around the shoulders.

20 mar: phew! lots of math last night. Joined the sleeves to the body and knit the first F decrease. I need to work the 190-something decreases into 42 rows, so I’m working the F dec 13 times, G dec 5 times, and I dec 4 times. I’m not 100% happy with the centered double decrease at the sleeve join - pattern specifies a sl2tog-k1-psso. I keep double checking how it looks on the WS (which is actually the RS).

19 mar: I’m going to knit another 1/2” on the sleeves (to 20”) just because they feel a little short to me. Actually people say the sleeves are too long, so maybe I won’t knit them to 20”.

I spent some time doing math for the yoke last night. Due to the increases I added for the bust, I have 294 stitches for the yoke. I need to decrease these down to the 38 size for my narrow shoulders. I was going to work the extra decreases at the shoulders but in the pattern Ysolda suggests working them at the center neck. I worry that will change the sloping of the neckline a little too much -- I have a lot of extra stitches to decrease! I will probably do a combination of extra decreases at the shoulders and at the center front (alternatively: my starting yoke stitch count matches that of the size 50-something, I could follow those decreases and just add 2 more sets to bring the final number to the 38 size, but I don’t think that will be enough).

18 mar: 3” left on the sleeves before joining. I think I need to knit another inch or two on the body as well. Not sure how it’s only 16”.

8 mar: got some knitting done while watching Goon last night! Still slow. I am almost to the elbow. ha.

6 mar: slow going on these sleeves! I’m finally through the ribbing. Maybe they’ll go more quickly now.

14 feb: cast on the sleeves last night. knitting both at once, magic loop.

6 jan: finished body to the point where sleeves will be joined. I’m going out of town but hope to knit the sleeves when I get back.

3 jan: just joined the fourth ball of calmer. I worked horizontal and vertical bust darts (7 sets of vert; 6 horiz). I have another inch to go on the body before setting it aside. I will need to do some major decreases above the bust to bring it in to the 38 size for the shoulders/neckline.

1 jan: joined the third ball of calmer, through the tree, on the bust increases. I don’t want the tree to come up too high so I am lengthening it a little and trying to figure out where to add the vertical and horizontal bust darts.

29 dec: started the tree chart yesterday. Almost on the second ball of yarn.

Mom gave me Little Red for Christmas (thanks mom!) and I got the urge to cast on Skelf almost immediately. I think calmer is a good match, though I was very tempted to go buy some madtosh dk or vintage for it. :)
