04-09-2020 - frogged. I almost got to the end but was unhappy with how this yarn played with the pattern. I think the yarn needs something simpler, like an asymmetrical triangle.
This pattern is written only. I’m not going to say it definitely needs a chart, because most of the stitch patterns are simple. But it could use headers saying what each section of the pattern makes: seed stitch, eyelets, lace, parrellelograms, etc.
I say this because early in in the shawl there is a section that makes seed stitch. Later on, you repeat some of these lines, so I expected seed stitch again. I got….ribbing. And I just wasn’t sure if that was right or not. Even after making a quick chart of those rows, I’m still not sure. So yeah, some indication of stitch patterns created would be helpful.
initial notes
Pattern calls for a US5 needle but I don’t have any, and besides I am a loose knitter, so I’m using US 4 instead.
My yarn’s label doesn’t say Sock on it--it just says Ranco, with Multy written underneath in smaller font. But I am assuming it’s the Sock since the information in the database matches what’s on the label.

I’ve worked on this for approximately four hours, and am complete through row 38.
This yarn is really tightly spun. Not so tight to twist back on itself, but tight enough to be really smooth. It doesn’t feel like wool/nylon in the hand: it feels like string. Or cotton. I got the yarn in a mystery grab bag, and though I love the colors I’m not impressed by the hand of the yarn.
