Inspired by the Andrew Bird song of the same name, this is a simple stockinette shawl with a YO & K at either end of each row.
Made from 100% Romney yarn I dyed in a loosely-wound ball, tightly overwrapped with cotton yarn. I soaked the yarn for an hour or so in cool, acidulated water (citric acid), then removed and squeezed as dry as possible. Then I carefully lowered it into a dark blue dye bath at a rolling boil, moved the pot from the stove, covered, and allowed to cool overnight.
In the morning I removed the ball and soaked it in several changes of cool water, squeezing out as much dye as possible in between. I then took the yarn outside and wrapped into a skein on a niddy-noddy, tied it tightly, rinsed again several times, and dried. If wound into a center-pull ball, the knitting can begin either at the light (center) or dark (outer) end.
Sorry for the weird coloring in the pic. The shawl is definitely blue, not purple.
